In August 1956 seven young Brazilians went to the United States, starting the AFS Intercultural Exchange Programs in this country.
Half a century has elapsed since. AFS Intercultura Brasil is very proud to invite you for AFS Brazil’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. The organization, which was the first in Brazil, tells its history, gathers past and present participants, becomes a volunteer service role model and casts a new glance at the world through the eyes of young people.
To mark this moment AFS Intercultura Brasil will hold several activities throughout 2006 and close the festivities during the National Convention. We will have the presence of AFSers from the first groups, international guests, government officials, members of the diplomatic core, partner non-governmental organizations, AFSers, volunteers and staff members in the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of AFS Brazil.
In the month of October international guests and former participants in exchanges in Brazil can return and remember the experiences that marked their lives, see the lively colors of this country, listen to the famous Brazilian music and come in contact with our warm life style by taking part on a Bus Trip from Rio de Janeiro to Salvador from October 1 to 11, 2006.
The ceremony closing a year of festivities – a gleaming 50th Anniversary Celebration Party – will be held in the Marvelous City of Rio de Janeiro on October 12, 2006 and include moments of reunion, awards, exhibitions, tributes and party.

The photograph exposition project – “THE WORLD THROUGH YOUNG PEOPLE EYES" was conceived as an important part of the AFS Intercultura Brasil's 50th Anniversary celebration and adds Diversity and Tolerance values to an Educational process.
Our objective is to promote the knowledge of Brazil's and other countries' cultures through photographs taken by the youngsters, showing the diversity of situations, information, points of view of the planet and to connect AFS to the international cultural knowledge world.
It will be an itinerant photograph exhibition in 74 Brazilian cities throughout 2006, with pictures taken by young Brazilians all over the world. A CD-ROM will be produced at the end of that period with the photographs shown in the exhibition and texts on intercultural education, diversity, tolerance, youth’s leading role and peace.
